With a new refinement paradigm towards anisotropic adaptive FEM on triangular meshes

Adaptive anisotropic refinement of finite element meshes allows to reduce the computational effort required to achieve a specified accuracy of the solution of a PDE problem. We present a new approach to adaptive refinement and demonstrate that this allows to construct algorithms which generate very flexible and efficient anisotropically refined meshes, even improving the convergence order compa...

A new adaptive local mesh refinement algorithm and its application on fourth order thin film flow problem

A new adaptive local mesh refinement method is presented for thin film flow problems containing moving contact lines. A simple anisotropic mesh-refinement strategy for triangular elements in 2D

A novel approach to anisotropic mesh-refinement of linear triangular elements in the finite element method is proposed. Using the method of solving a hierarchically refined dual problem in the a posteriori error analysis, indicators for edge refinement, rather than element refinement, can be obtained. A complete adaptive strategy is presented and illustrated by some numerical examples.

Comparison of different numerical methods for calculating stress intensity factors in analysis of fractured structures

In this research, an efficient Galerkin Finite Volume Method (GFVM) along with the h–refinement adaptive process and post–processing error estimation analysis is presented for fracture analysis. The adaptive strategy is used to produce more accurate solution with the least computational cost. To investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the developed model, the GFVM is compared with two versio...

Stabilized Finite Element Methods with Anisotropic Mesh Refinement for the Oseen Problem

with an artificial reaction term cu where c ∼ 1/∆t. We consider stabilized conforming finite element (FE) schemes with equal-order interpolation of velocity/pressure for problem (3)–(4) with emphasis on anisotropic mesh refinement in boundary layers. The classical streamline upwind and pressure stabilization (SUPG/PSPG) techniques for the incompressible Navier-Stokes problem for equal-order int...
